London, July 24 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in London Wednesday evening, marking the beginning of a pivotal two-day official visit to the United Kingdom. His arrival signals more than just diplomacy—it’s a renewed pledge to strengthen one of the world’s most promising bilateral relationships.
As he stepped onto British soil, PM Modi shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter):
“Landed in London. This visit will go a long way in advancing the economic partnership between our nations. The focus will be on furthering prosperity, growth and boosting job creation for our people. A strong India-UK friendship is essential for global progress.”
This visit is about people. It’s about shared values, history, and the belief that by working together, India and the UK can address not only their mutual interests but also contribute to a more stable and prosperous world.
Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal echoed this sentiment:
“Scripting a new beginning in the India-Great Britain Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. PM @narendramodi lands in London… Bilateral talks with PM @Keir_Starmer & meeting with His Majesty King Charles III lie ahead.”
This marks PM Modi’s fourth visit to the UK, undertaken at the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. As the world watches, both leaders are expected to make significant strides on a wide array of issues—from trade and innovation to education, healthcare, climate, and defence.
Central to the agenda is the long-awaited India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which has been under negotiation for three years. If finalized, the deal could double bilateral trade by 2030, removing tariffs on 99% of Indian exports to the UK and reducing tariffs on 90% of British goods like whisky and automobiles.
The two sides are also set to discuss global and regional security concerns, including PM Modi’s likely mention of rising concerns around Khalistani extremism in the UK—a topic India has raised repeatedly.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized,
“The issue of the presence of Khalistani extremists, bodies close to these people, is something that we have brought to the attention of our partners in the UK.”
This trip is more than just policy papers and diplomatic protocols—it’s about crafting a shared future where innovation thrives, trade flourishes, and people connect. PM Modi’s scheduled meeting with His Majesty King Charles III is expected to further highlight the deep cultural and strategic ties that unite both nations.
As India and the UK turn a new page in their comprehensive strategic partnership, the people of both nations look forward with hope—because strong friendships don’t just shape bilateral ties; they shape the world.
