“A Soul of Fire, A Heart of Peace”

A Soul of Fire, A Heart of Peace

— A Tribute to Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah
By Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat for KASHmirie

In the lap of the Himalayas where the rivers roam,
In a valley of poetry, of prayer, and of home,
There walked a man with no sword in hand,
Yet stronger than steel was his final stand.

Syed Adil Hussain Shah, the world must know,
Did not live for the spotlight, nor for a show.
He lived for the people — unknown, far, and near,
And died with his conscience crystal clear.

It was not his war, yet he stepped into the flame,
Not for glory, nor medals, nor for fame.
He saw panic where laughter once stood,
He ran toward the fire for the sake of good.

Innocent travelers, faces foreign and new,
Most not of his faith, but his humanity true.
They came to see snow, to breathe the free air,
Never knowing terror would strike them there.

Twenty-six fell to the merciless storm,
Over twenty more left bleeding and torn.
But in that chaos, one figure arose—
Where others fell back, he fiercely chose.

He reached for the gun in the killer’s grip,
With steady heart and tightened lip.
He tried to disarm, to stop the spray,
To give the frightened a chance to run away.

But as destiny leaned in with cruel design,
Another bullet tore across the line.
Struck in the head, he fell to the ground,
Yet the soul of Kashmir in him was found.

A man of peace, but not of fear,
A protector of life, of all held dear.
He wore no armor, bore no shield,
Yet his courage was the battlefield.

And thus he rose — not just in name,
But in the legend of sacrifice and flame.
A Shaheed, they call him, kissed by the divine,
A martyr whose spirit will always shine.

He was not Hindu, Sikh, or Christian born,
But he saw all faiths as threads well-worn
In the fabric of love that binds us whole—
He gave his life to honor that soul.

Let the world now write and read,
Not of militants’ hate, but of this noble deed.
Let TRP-driven tongues fall still,
For truth does not bend to a shallow will.

This was Kashmiriyat — not words, but blood,
A hand held out in the thickest flood.
It’s Adil’s voice that echoes now:
“We stand for peace — we make that vow.”

O Adil, your story is inked in our tears,
It will rise in our prayers for countless years.
You showed that courage has no script or caste,
That love, when true, will always outlast.

And so, KASHmirie sings your name,
A soul who rose above the flame.
You gave your breath for lives unknown—
Now in every heart, you’ve found a home.

In memory of Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah
Your sacrifice is not forgotten. Your courage is eternal.
