Srinagar, August 28 – In a move reflecting both concern and solidarity, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly secretariat has announced the cancellation of all scheduled meetings of House Committees until September 5, 2025, due to the worsening flood situation in the region.
With heavy rains continuing to lash many areas across the Union Territory, several regions are already experiencing flood-like conditions, prompting emergency response teams to be deployed across multiple districts. The local administration is currently working around the clock to ensure the safety and evacuation of affected residents.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, the Assembly secretariat stated that postponing these official meetings is not just a logistical decision, but a humanitarian one. “In view of the prevailing inclement weather and the consequent challenges, including floods and disruptions in normal life, the administration’s priority is rightly focused on relief and rescue operations,” the notification read.
All House Committees, including Financial Committees and other sub-committees, will remain suspended during this period. The decision underscores the need for all institutional resources to be directed toward managing the crisis and ensuring public safety.
This announcement serves as a reminder of how governance must sometimes pause to prioritize people—when communities are struggling, the focus must shift from policy rooms to the front lines of disaster response.
Let’s stand united and support each other through these trying times.
