J&K Police Earns National Honour for Excellence in Passport Verification Services

Srinagar, June 25 – In a proud and unprecedented moment, the Jammu & Kashmir Police has been nationally recognized for its outstanding performance in passport verification – a vital yet often overlooked service that deeply impacts the lives of thousands.

For the first time ever, J&K Police has made it to the list of the best-performing police forces in India for their passport verification work during the 2024–25 cycle. From April 2024 to March 2025, the department processed a remarkable 134,219 passport applications, showcasing not only efficiency but also a strong commitment to serving the public with speed and integrity.

The award was presented by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) during the annual Passport Seva Divas, a day that commemorates the enactment of the Passport Act, 1967. This celebration, held at CB Muthamma Hall in New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, was graced by Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs, along with senior MEA officials, representatives from 37 passport offices across India, and other dignitaries.

What truly stood out this year was the spotlight on police and CID verification, a critical yet often thankless component of the passport issuance process. J&K Police’s efforts in this area didn’t just meet expectations—they redefined them.

“This recognition is a tribute to the tireless work of our CID and Police officers,” said a senior official. “They went beyond duty, ensuring people could travel, study, and work abroad without unnecessary delays. Their dedication has made the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir proud.”

Receiving the prestigious Certificate of Recognition on behalf of the police force was Rayees Mohammad Bhat (IPS), DIG CID. His presence at the national event symbolized the grit and teamwork behind the achievement.

For every student waiting to study abroad, for every parent hoping to reunite with family overseas, and for every citizen planning a new chapter in life — this milestone means their dreams will move a little faster, thanks to the men and women behind the scenes in J&K Police.
