In a significant step towards deepening economic cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia is ready to facilitate meat and agricultural imports from Pakistan, including beef and other livestock products.
This announcement came during a joint press conference held in conjunction with the visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Malaysia.
“In agriculture, we’ve already taken steps by increasing the import of rice from Pakistan,” Anwar said. “There is also a keen interest to import beef and other meats, and we will facilitate this,” he added, noting that the potential value of these exports could reach up to US$200 million.
Prime Minister Anwar highlighted that Malaysia is open to this initiative, especially following Pakistan’s assurance of offering competitive pricing.
“Since you (Shehbaz) have assured us that the prices will be competitive, we will certainly do what is necessary to facilitate the meat export,” Anwar affirmed.
