Wuyan, Pampore, August 10, 2024 – A significant meeting of the School Management Development Committee (SMDC) was held today at the historic Govt. Boys High School, Wuyan Pampore, established in 1952. The meeting, chaired by Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Principal of HSS Ladhoo and DDO of HS Wuyan, was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, including Yasmeena Yaqoob, Head of Institution at BHS Wuyan, Tahseena Ali, Master at HS Wuyan, Gh. Mohd Wani, Teacher at BHS Wuyan, Sajad Hussain, Teacher at BHS Wuyan, Abd. Qayoom, Teacher at BHS Wuyan, and prominent local figures such as Farooq Ahmad Wani, Sarpanch of Wuyan, Farooz Ahmad Bhat, Chairman of Ehsaas-e-Insaniyat Trust Wuyan, Abd. Rahim Khanday, Senior Citizen, and Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, a global business icon and social and political activist.
During the meeting, several critical issues concerning the school’s infrastructure and student safety were brought to the forefront. One of the most pressing concerns discussed was the lack of fencing around the school premises. The school, currently open on all four sides, poses a significant safety risk to the students. Attendees stressed the urgent need for the construction of a fence to secure the school grounds.
Another major issue raised was the absence of a playground for the students. The lack of recreational space is a serious drawback for the school’s physical education programs. However, it was suggested that the creation of a playground could be made possible if the adjacent road were to be relocated, allowing the school grounds to be expanded and connected.
Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, an alumnus of the school, actively participated in the discussions and assured the school management that he would take these matters to higher authorities to seek prompt solutions. He emphasized the community’s responsibility in maintaining the cleanliness of the school premises and the surrounding areas, urging the residents of Wuyan to refrain from littering and to uphold their duties as responsible citizens.
In his address, Dr. Bhat expressed his deep appreciation for the teachers and the entire school staff, acknowledging their crucial role in shaping the future of the students and the community at large. “A great teacher not only imparts knowledge but also ignites a lifelong passion for learning,” Dr. Bhat remarked, highlighting the invaluable contribution of educators.
Echoing Dr. Bhat’s sentiments, Manzoor Ahmad Mir quoted Perseus, saying, “Education is a controlling grace to the young, consolation to the old, wealth to the poor, and ornament to the rich.” He also emphasized the importance of enrolling more children in government schools, noting the high qualifications of the teachers and the need for community support to uplift these institutions.
Dr. Bhat, who proudly shared that even his own children are enrolled in a government school, called on the local community to encourage and support government schools in their efforts to provide quality education. “We must work together to ensure the success of our government schools,” he urged, reinforcing the idea that collective effort is essential for the growth and development of educational institutions in the region.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all participants to address the challenges facing Govt. Boys High School Wuyan and to work towards creating a safer and more conducive learning environment for the students.
