SEPANG, June 21 – There’s good news for travelers flying through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA): the long-awaited Aerotrain is finally making its comeback. After years of being out of service, the train is set to roll again starting July 1 at 10am, pending final tests.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke, speaking at a press conference held right at the airport, shared the much-anticipated update with visible optimism. “It’s been quite a journey getting here. The Aerotrain has been out of operation for some time, but today, I’m pleased to say we’ve reached the finish line. The trials have gone well, and we’re now gearing up for a few final checks, including the Emergency Response Plan,” he said.
This Aerotrain revival is expected to significantly boost KLIA’s overall service and international reputation. For many passengers, especially frequent fliers, the train is a welcome return — offering a faster, more comfortable ride between terminals.
To ensure a smooth transition, the existing shuttle bus system will continue operating alongside the train. This dual approach is aimed at minimizing congestion and helping passengers move easily through the airport.
According to Loke, KLIA now has three Aerotrain sets ready, with two expected to run during normal hours and one kept on standby in case of technical issues. During the quieter hours — from midnight to 5am — only one train will be active, allowing for regular maintenance without disrupting service.
Each Aerotrain consists of three carriages and can accommodate up to 270 passengers at a time, offering a much-needed upgrade to airport connectivity.
As KLIA prepares for this relaunch, one thing is clear — smoother, faster, and more convenient airport travel is just around the corner.
