Iran says US looking for ‘face-saving’ exit as tensions deepen

Iran’s defence ministry has claimed that the United States is trying to find a “face-saving” way to step back from what it describes as an increasingly difficult and prolonged conflict.

According to Iranian media outlet ISNA, a spokesperson for the ministry stated that Iran’s current military strength has shifted the balance, putting pressure on its opponents. The spokesperson added that the US now appears to be searching for a way out of what Iran characterizes as a “war quagmire.”

These remarks come at a time when US envoys, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are reportedly heading to Islamabad in Pakistan. Their visit is seen as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions and exploring possible paths toward stability in the region.

However, Iranian state media has indicated that direct negotiations between Iran and the United States are unlikely at this stage, suggesting that any diplomatic engagement may remain indirect for now.

The situation highlights the growing complexity of international relations in the region, where military strength, political narratives, and diplomacy are all playing critical roles. While statements from both sides reflect firm positions, the movement of envoys suggests that behind the scenes, efforts to reduce escalation may still be underway.
